Why Every PR Major Needs to Learn Adobe Suite

WHAT is Adobe Suite?

All PR majors have once thought, “What in the world is Adobe Suite?” Well, if this is you, I am here to tell you about it. I am by no means a master at Adobe Suite, but as a PR major, I have learned the tools to navigate and adjust to it. Adobe Suite is a family of professional multimedia creation and editing tools. It includes Photoshop, InDesign, lllustrator, Dreamweaver, Adobe Premiere Pro and many more. Adobe Suite provides a wide variety of extensive tools and features. These elements give you the flexibility to create and design anything in your imagination, which is pretty awesome if you ask me.

HOW do I use Adobe Suite?

Every app on Adobe Suite can be downloaded from the Adobe website, starting at $9.99 a month all the way up to $82.98 a month, depending on the plan you choose. The apps you download depend on what areas of the Adobe Suite you want to learn and use. Learning how to actually use each section is important for beginners. Each app has different tools and features, so I will explain how and why to use three out of the multiple Adobe apps – Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

Photoshop: Photoshop is image editing software developed and manufactured by Adobe Systems Inc., and it is considered one of the leaders in photo editing software. Online resources are a beautiful thing, and if you know how to utilize them, you are golden. I recommend using Adobe tutorials for all apps downloaded. The Adobe tutorials for Photoshop help guide you through the basics, so you can become familiarized with the app. Also, the Adobe tutorials provide users with sample files that can be downloaded to Photoshop, so you can follow along with the video. For example, say you want to learn about how to crop and resize images– well, you are in luck since Adobe provides a specific video tutorial on how to achieve this. Photoshop is the perfect editing-photo tool for potential events, headshots or senior pictures.

InDesign: Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software application for creating flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. This app is perfect for organizing writing content. InDesign can be a bit tricky for beginners, so I recommend first watching the Adobe tutorial, “Get started with InDesign.”  This will help you establish the fundamentals about InDesign and then you can go more in-depth in later tutorials. InDesign is extremely beneficial when it comes to writing and organizing, so if you are considering becoming a writer, this is the app for you.

Illustrator: Last, but not least, and my personal favorite – Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator  is a software application for creating drawings, illustrations and artwork using a Windows or macOS computer. What I admire most about this app is that you can become an artist, no matter your artistic capability. It helps to be artistic, but this app gives you the tools to put your imagination to reality. It is really important to download the provided files on the Adobe tutorials  for Illustrator, because you can practice along with it. Want to design a new logo for your company? Illustrator is the right tool for you.

WHY should I use Adobe Suite?

There are three main reasons why it is important for PR majors to learn how to use Adobe Suite – to implement creativity, achieve consistency and gain more knowledge. These apps will provide the tools to further your skills in the PR major. Without Adobe Suite, I would struggle immensely in the world of PR. From one PR major to the other, please learn Adobe Suite. It will change your professional life.
